Request a kit online
If you're aged 16 or over and live in Birmingham or Solihull, you can get tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) for free with our STI self-sampling kits. All kits include a test for chlamydia.
You can have your kit delivered to your home or another address, or pick one up from a clinic or pharmacy.
Who should get tested?
At Umbrella, we advise all sexually active people to get tested for chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis. Some people may need to be tested for other infections too.
If you're under 25 and sexually active you should get tested for chlamydia at least once a year or whenever you have a new sexual partner.
Free condoms
The best way to protect against chlamydia and other STIs when you're having sex is using a condom.
Condoms are available for free from all Umbrella clinics and pharmacies, and from some GPs.
To find clinics, pharmacies and GP practices in Birmingham and Solihull, and to see which services they provide, please visit the Umbrella service locator.
Did you know ... ?
- Chlamydia does not cause symptoms in around 50% of men and 70% – 80% of women, so you could have it and not know
- If left untreated in women, chlamydia can cause lower abdominal (tummy) pain, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), infertility and ectopic pregnancy (when a pregnancy develops in the fallopian tube rather than in the womb)
- If left untreated in men, chlamydia can cause epididymo-orchitis (painful, swollen testicles) and infertility
- If found and treated early with antibiotics, chlamydia will not cause problems
